The Bollywood classic “Jab We Met” played a pivotal role in Kareena Kapoor’s career. Her remarkable portrayal of the vivacious character ‘Geet’ earned her widespread acclaim from cinema enthusiasts. Recently, marking the 16th anniversary of this iconic film, Kareena Kapoor shared a fascinating anecdote about how she became part of this project. She disclosed that it was Shahid Kapoor who played a crucial role in convincing her to take on the movie.
In an interview with Mid-Day, Kareena candidly revealed, “I was actually without work. I hadn’t worked for a year and a half because I had been turning down major film offers. I couldn’t find the kind of roles I desired, and the films I had been part of weren’t performing well. So, I had planned to take a sabbatical for a year and a half.” She went on to explain, “That’s when Imtiaz Ali unexpectedly approached me, having previously approached Shahid Kapoor. Shahid encouraged me, saying, ‘Hey, listen, he’s going to approach you for this role, and it’s fantastic.’ I thought, ‘Yes, I’ll work on this movie.'”
Kareena Kapoor expressed her surprise at the film’s enduring popularity, saying, “I never knew that it would become such an iconic movie.” She also humorously mentioned how she had high hopes for another film, “Tashan,” at the time. Shahid and Kareena were not only a beloved on-screen couple but also had a real-life relationship that lasted for almost five years. However, they eventually parted ways, citing personal reasons.
